Overview
Tennis equipment includes all the hardware that goes with a tennis court or tennis facility; court surfacing, lights, nets, net posts, fences, squeegees, tennis baskets, tennis ball picker-uppers, trash cans, benches, windscreens, back boards and display boards. This equipment must be well made a durable, it is often exposed to the elements and takes a regular beating from players.
Sweet Spot
Tennis equipment is almost exclusively available online and through catalogs. It is a specialized industry with individual reps around the country servicing facilities. Online websites are a great place to research tennis equipment and price it.
Before you buy, find out if there is a local sales representative to provide support. Some manufacturers offer excellent warranties, service contracts and installation.
The most significant investments in tennis facilities are tennis court lights usually costing over $10,000 per court to install. These are long term investments that enhance playing experience and add more than 25% useful play time on the court. Check with your municipality to determine your restrictions.
Resurfacing your tennis court(s) is the second largest expense. Hard-courts are the simplest to maintain and are resurfaced through a mixture of paint and sand. This costs at least $2000 per court and should be done by experts at least every 5 years. Other surfaces are maintained more regularly and don't require major overhauls.
